Sign up as a community volunteer following natural disasters

In times of crisis, Australians love to help.

Volunteering can provide crucial support to people in the community who are impacted by an emergency. That’s why we’re calling on all people who can lend a hand to register their details to become a volunteer.

How does it work?

Our aim is to connect people who have a desire to step up during times of crisis with organisations in their community coordinating a response.

Recovery following an emergency can take weeks, months or even years and is when non-frontline volunteers can be the greatest help. That is why it’s important to have a network of people ready to assist.

Anyone can become an emergency support volunteer and be part of your community’s effort to recover in times of need. You don’t need any specialist skills, just a hand in the air that says “I can help”.

Register your details

Your information is stored securely on our platform and you can opt in and out of any current emergency campaigns. You can set your availability or even pause your profile if you are no longer available.

Your details are passed along

Your details are given to certified volunteer involving organisations in need of volunteers based on the details and location you provide.

Organisation contacts you

When available, organisations will offer you volunteer opportunities. As recovery from emergencies can take weeks, months or even years, you may not be needed until much later. Don’t lose heart, every volunteer is valued.

How you can help

Emergency support volunteers will not be sent to any areas or activities where there is a known threat or danger. They will only be called upon to assist in preparation before a disaster or after the immediate response of front line volunteers.
  • Community food
Helpers can sort food donations and prepare meals for people impacted by disaster.
  • Transport
Driving can be required before, during and following a disaster for a multitude of reasons, including transport for affected families.
  • Clean up
Often following times of disaster, volunteers are called upon to help clean up the affected area.
  • Caring for children, seniors and animals
Community emergency volunteers can assist by helping to care for vulnerable members of society who have been effected by the crisis.
  • Emotional and physical support
Volunteers can provide crucial emotional and physical support to help communities recover from disaster.
  • Assisting the public
Emergency support volunteers can lend a hand by directing the public, running information desks, and organising local volunteer efforts.
