Skills Based Volunteering Opportunities

Skilled Opportunities

Skills based volunteering involves discrete one on one projects in which a corporate volunteer/s utilises their individual or workplace skills to assist a not-for-profit or community organisation. Project commitments are generally 8-12 hours spread across a few weeks or months, however can vary depending on the project. Projects include skills in areas such as Human Resources, Strategic Planning, Business Development, Project Management, Risk Assessment, Mentoring and Coaching, and many more.

Looking for a different type of skilled-volunteering opportunity?

If these current opportunities don’t quite suit your skill set, let us know and we will try to source a project specifically for you / your team.

Availability depends on the needs within community organisations at that point in time –  it could take a few weeks to several months to find the right match between community need and your desired project and skill set.

See current opportunities below – express your interest in the program, or a specific opportunity.

Project: Risk Management Plan Review (North Perth Community Garden)

North Perth Community Garden (NPCG) is 820m2 of gardening bliss, with a little something for everyone. At North Perth Community Garden, they seek to innovate within a garden atmosphere whilst also using well established ways of growing plants. The precinct is a hive of activity: Many members are also members (or their partner) of their immediate neighbours: Vincent Community Shed, Farmer Street Studio, North Perth Tennis Club and North Perth Bowling Club.

North Perth Community is looking for support in reviewing their current risk management plan (originally developed in 2019) and aligning it with best practice guidelines. They would like someone with risk management experience to provide feedback and advice on how they can improve their plan.

This project will involve:

  • Reviewing North Perth Community Garden’s existing risk management documentation and processes as well as background information on the structure and needs of the organisation.
  • A meeting (if required) with the NPCG Chairperson / Committee members and key volunteers to go over any questions or queries, discussing any relevant risks and how to mitigate their impact and likelihood.
  • Presenting an updated Risk Management Plan to the Chairperson / Committee for final review and endorsement.

This project will ensure that NPCG:

  • Stays compliant with the Workplace Health & Safety Act
  • Meets insurance requirements
  • Improving governance
  • Improving stakeholder confidence
  • Helping establish a reliable basis for decision-making and planning

This project can be completed entirely offsite. Understanding of business / legal / accounting experience in risk management planning is essential to this project. The corporate volunteer/s will be supported on this project by NPCG Chairperson, with input from other committee members as required.

It is anticipated that this project will be able to be completed in 12 hours or less, however, your expertise in this regard is welcomed. Ideally this project will be completed within the next 6 months, however there is currently no set time frame in place.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering.
