Mission Australia and Volunteering WA have partnered on the Inclusive Volunteering Project, an initiative designed to strengthen the capacity of volunteering involving organisations to engage volunteers with disability. The project focuses on developing tailored roles and creating more inclusive opportunities across Western Australia’s volunteering sector.

Through this partnership, three online workshops have been delivered, alongside a face to face activity at the Volunteering Showcase. These sessions provided Mission Australia with the opportunity to share expertise in building inclusive communities, while Volunteering WA supported organisations to embed volunteering standards and offer contextualised guidance.

During the workshops, organisations demonstrated genuine curiosity about how they could adapt and create inclusive roles for people with disability. Feedback highlighted that the sessions extended participants’ knowledge of disability inclusion, particularly around supporting people with diverse needs and those attending with support workers.

One attendee reflected: “The presenter is a fantastic resource in the volunteering space. He offers guidance and information in a clear and easy to approach way. I believe his advocacy and knowledge can truly help make the volunteering ecosystem more disability friendly.”

Really amazing workshop. Best and most comprehensive I’ve seen on this topic, thank you!

To date multiple organisations have taken up one-on-one sessions to better expand their own volunteering roles, develop their inclusive governance structures or better connect with the disability community and grow their volunteers.

Mission Australia will be running several inclusive training sessions with Volunteering WA throughout 2026. Sessions will be available on Volunteering WA’s Training & Events calendar.
