Measuring Change

Measuring the impact of volunteering offers an exciting opportunity to better understand and celebrate the difference volunteers make.

A Toolkit for volunteer organisations

The Measuring Change Toolkits aim to build the capacity of the volunteer sector in measuring and communicating the outcomes and impacts of volunteering activities.

They take you step-by-step through the process using plain language, real-world examples, and practical tools that can be adapted to your own context.

Whether your organisation (or program) is well-established or just starting out; the tools will help strengthen the way you reflect on and communicate the impact of your work.

Preparation Activities & Templates

The activities and templates will support you in identifying contributors to evaluation and consider whose voices need to be included.

Best for anyone involved in planning, delivering, or evaluating initiatives, regardless of role, experience level, or organisation size.

Foundations Pathway

Designed to be self-guided, you can download the Foundations Toolkit and work through at your own pace with your organisation and volunteers. The toolkit is practical and accessible, helping you build confidence in understanding, measuring and communicating the impact of your volunteers.

Best for small teams, busy organisations, or those just getting started who would like to consider impact measurement a little more before embarking on a course.

*Volunteering WA has scheduled a number of Foundation Workshops for those who want to walk through this guide together.

Deeper Learning Pathway

Our online Deeper Learning series is a three-part workshop program designed to support organisations ready to go further. Across the series, you’ll build a program logic model, develop and evaluation plan, and strengthen how you analyse and communicate impact.

Best for organisations ready to embed impact measurement into their everyday programs and practice.

Bespoke Support (Volunteering WA Consultations)

If you’re looking for more tailored support, we offer consultation sessions designed around your organisations needs. Together, we’ll design a bespoke process to build your knowledge, skills and confidence in impact measurement – grounded in your goals, capacity and context.

Best for organisations with specific challenges, programs or strategic priorities.

The Project

For many, the idea of ‘measuring impact’ can feel daunting – it’s yet another complex reporting task on top of already stretched resources.

Volunteering WA identified a knowledge-gap in our sector that would enable organisations to measure the impact of their volunteering activities, on individuals, organisations, and the benefitting communities.

Through co-design, 12 organisations contributed to the development of an innovative, fit-for-purpose Toolkit.
