Resources for managing, leading and involving volunteers

Resources have been categorised across the four (4) stages of the Volunteer Involvement Cycle: Prepare, Recruit, Support, Evaluate.

Prepare

Strong volunteer programs don’t happen by accident – they start with preparation. Prepare for volunteer-involvement through planning, governance, and program and role design.

Recruit

Good recruitment helps volunteers feel welcomed, informed and ready to contribute. The Recruit stage of the Volunteer Involvement Cycle focuses on attracting, screening, selecting and onboarding volunteers.

Support

Volunteers are more likely to stay involved when they feel supported, connected and valued. The Support stage of the Volunteer Involvement Cycle focuses on the day-to-day volunteer experience, including communication, training, mentoring and recognition.

Evaluate

The best volunteer programs continue to learn, improve and share the news. The Evaluate stage of the Volunteer Involvement Cycle encourages organisations to regularly review volunteer programs, gather feedback and identify opportunities for improvement.
