About International Volunteer Year (IVY2026)

We’ve entered the International Volunteer Year (IVY2026) for Sustainable Development, a chance to recognise the role volunteers play in building stronger, more connected communities.

IVY2026 is a powerful opportunity to value volunteering, strengthen the systems that support it, and invite more people to be part of Australia’s volunteering future.

This is Your Year to Volunteer.

A year shaped by people, connection and purpose, with volunteering at the heart of Australian communities.

This is your year to volunteer

We encourage all volunteers and volunteer involving organisations to proudly promote International Volunteer Year (IVY2026) celebrations and use the resources widely to help increase the awareness of the vital role volunteers play in our lives.

Year of the Volunteer will be recognised all volunteer events and celebrations throughout 2026.

You can promote International Volunteer Year (IVY2026), as well as see how you can get involved in the annual volunteer celebrations happening throughout the year as well (such as National Volunteer Week, Youth Volunteer Week).

Throughout IVY 2026, Volunteering Australia will share a narrative that brings together the key ideas guiding our work.

The narrative draws on three core elements:

Our shared story for 2026 will appear across our website, social media, publications, and campaigns to ensure Australian communities and volunteer involving organisations can easily follow the momentum of this important year.
